Recently I have been seeing the slip dress all over the place and now it’s slipping into the high street (see what I did there!). However, what do you think about this look? Is it too risqué for the street? Does it give too much sex appeal?
Well, in the beginning I had mixed feelings about the slip dress. I love being daring with my sense of fashion but when it comes to wearing slips in public, I suppose I felt a bit exposed. However the slip seems to have grown on me and I think it can easily be incorporated into your street wear wardrobe. If you want to try out this trend, here’s a few tips to get you started.
1) If, like me, you feel a little over exposed and think a silky slip is just too much (or too little!) then choose a dress inspired by the slip. These inspirations tend to be made of thicker material but still retains the lacy, feminine details of a slip. It’s very cold here in the UK at the moment so throwing on an oversized knit, woollen tights and ankle boots will give your winter wardrobe that added touch of femininity with the lace showing from underneath.
2) Layering is always a great way to dress down an outfit. Throw over a denim jacket of checked shirt and pair with trainers or Converse to toughen up the slip and add a sports luxe feel. If in doubt, keep it casual!
3) Now for those who are more daring and want to wear flimsy, silk slips but make them street wear appropriate, you can tuck the dress into a pair of jeans or shorts, add a blazer et voilà the dress becomes a beautiful, silk cami that creates an ultra flattering feel to a boyish blazer added over the top.
4) You can also wear the silk slip as a dress by pairing a sleek roll neck shirt underneath, finished with tights and heeled boots. This look gives an air of sophistication whilst giving in to the sex appeal with the silk and lace. It looks effortless, put together and above all, very chic.
Hope you give these tips a try. See you on Wednesday for another Accessories are your Best Friends post!
